How to calculate the pitch percentage for beatmatching

Divide the playing track's BPM by the incoming track's original BPM. Subtract one and multiply by 100 to get the deck pitch adjustment. The same speed ratio changes musical pitch when Key Lock or Master Tempo is off.

Worked example

Example: matching 124 BPM to 128 BPM

An incoming 124 BPM track needs about +3.226% pitch to match a playing track at 128 BPM. That fits inside a ±6% or wider fader range. Without Key Lock, the speed change also raises pitch by about 55 cents.

  • Key Lock, Master Tempo or pitch-preserving processing prevents the calculated speed change from shifting musical pitch.

How much should I move the pitch fader?

Use the required incoming-deck percentage. A positive result means speed the incoming track up; a negative result means slow it down.

Why does changing BPM change the key?

Traditional varispeed links playback speed and pitch. Enable Key Lock or Master Tempo if you want to change BPM while preserving the original musical key.

What if the required percentage is outside my deck range?

Select a wider tempo range, choose a closer track, or check whether the tempos make sense as a half-time or double-time pair.
