Bars to seconds: settings and guide
Worked example
Example: 16 bars at 120 BPM
Sixteen bars of 4/4 contain 64 quarter-note beats. At 120 beats per minute, 64 beats last 32 seconds, so a 16-bar section runs for 0:32.
Good to know
Assumptions and limits
- The tempo stays constant for the full section.
- Tempo is entered as quarter-note BPM, matching a standard DAW tempo grid.
- The time-signature denominator determines the note value represented by the numerator.
- Clock displays use exact nearest-millisecond rounding; the seconds line shows up to 12 significant digits.
- Count-ins, pauses, fermatas and tempo ramps are not included.

Quick answers
How many seconds is 16 bars?
There is no single duration without a tempo. In 4/4, 16 bars contain 64 quarter-note beats, so they last 38.4 seconds at 100 BPM, 32 seconds at 120 BPM, or 30 seconds at 128 BPM.
How do I calculate a 3/4 or 6/8 section?
Choose the complete time signature. At quarter-note BPM, one 3/4 bar contains three quarter notes and one 6/8 bar contains three quarter-note equivalents.
Does this handle tempo changes?
Calculate each constant-tempo section separately, then add the durations together.
